Apple Event confirmed for Oct 23, iPad Mini Unveiled?

Apple has just sent out invitations for an even on October 23rd. Its tagline? "We've got a little bit more to show you." Which, of course, makes everyone think iPad Mini.

So far, we've seen leaked hardware shots, hardware pictures, heard plenty of rumors and even seen some software customization in the run-up to the iPad Mini. Apple, of course, hasn't commented. The company is trying to keep the same aura of mystery that surrounded the company prior to Steve Jobs' death, even while their effort to 'double down' on secrecy seems to have completely backfired.

Here's what we're expecting: Apple will announce a 7.85 inch iPad. It won't have a retina display, thanks to its smaller size. It probably will use a lightning connector, even as the full-size tablet still uses the old dock connector and wasn't revealed that long ago. And that's about it. This isn't one of Apple's major launches, so we won't see any major new features on the iPad Mini. I'm just expecting it to be a small iPad, which is as exciting as you want to make it.

Pundits are also expecting that Apple will unveil a new Retina version of the 13 inch Macbook Pro, bringing it in line with the rest of the Macbook Pro's that Apple makes.

If you're looking to follow the happenings live, the event will be happening at 10 AM Pacific time, October 23rd. For a liveblog, I would recommend either The Verge or Ars Technica. Both have rocked it in the past, covering major technology events.

he iPad Mini could prove to be the death knell for Android tablets. The one market that Android has completely cornered is the 7 inch tablet, and now Apple is moving in on that, too. The real question will be whether people see an advantage to switching to the iPad Mini, which will likely be more expensive and similarly specced.
