Hurricane Sandy Delays Google EventWere you hoping to get your hands on a new Nexus 4 or 10 on the 29th? Well, too bad--the event has been indefinitely delayed. See, it was scheduled to take place on a pier in New York. But there's one little problem: a hurricane happens to be barreling down on the Big Apple.
Right now New York is in a state of emergency, and the pier where the event was to be held is in an evacuation zone. Sandy is predicted to be one of the worst hurricanes to hit the East coast in a very, very long time, and things are bound to get a bit messy.
Google will, of course, reschedule to a time when water won't be covering the venue.
You might actually consider this a bit of a win for Microsoft. Their event, also scheduled for the 29th, will still be taking place, on account for it being on the other side of the country. San Francisco, to be exact. So Microsoft will be the second out the gate after Apple's (in my opinion) surprising lackluster event. Though, the announcement will be about Windows Phone 8, which, despite the nifty interface, still hasn't captured much of a marketshare. Google's delayed event will likely still overshadow whatever Microsoft can muster.
If you happen to live on the Northern half of the East coast, make sure that you are somewhere safe. Massive power outages are predicted, along with strong wind, driving rain, large surges, and other things normally associated with hurricanes. Sandy's reach is greater than most hurricanes, however, so even if you're outside the main path of the storm, you should avoid going out over the next couple of days if at all possible.
