Now Amazon is Getting in on the Custom Video Content Game

Fist Hulu, then Netflix and now Amazon. All the greats of online media have apparently decided that creating their own content is better than playing games with television studios.

News has just come down the wire that Amazon is seeking personnel for a new division dedicated to producing exclusive video content. Right now, it is seeking at least two creative executives knowledgeable in the field and willing to hash out a full team. If you happen to be one such executives, this could be the chance of the lifetime, letting you get in on the ground floor of something I’m betting will upset modern TV as we know it.

The two job openings are for two different genres of TV: comedy and children’s programming. The executive’s job would be to find interesting shows and finance and develop promising concepts. This is a sure sign that Amazon is looking to get into producing its own content.

Streaming media providers have been slowly moving towards content production for years, but things have recently started moving in earnest. It wasn’t that long ago that the only streaming TV shows were self financed, awkward productions. Now we’re seeing every major purveyor of streaming shows get into the production game.

I personally believe this has something to do with how existing TV studios have treated streaming content providers. They have constantly been shortchanged, forced to pay massive prices and deal with long delays. I think Amazon, Netflix and Hulu just got tired of the game and decided to change the rules a bit. And I think that broadcast TV stations should be worried.
