The FBI Releases Report on Steve Jobs, Heavily Censored
Want to know more about Steve Jobs? Take a gander at tis 191 page document the government just released. Sure, they censored some of the best parts, but it is still an interesting thing to glance through.
The report was generated when Steve Jobs was being considered for a role in George H. W. Bush’s administration, and delves deep into what the government thought of the man. At the time, Steve Jobs was working at NeXT, a company he founded after being kicked out of his previous company.
The report isn’t exactly what you would call flattering. While there are some passages that paint him as the idol and tech revolutionary that he is now considered, many others deemed him shallow, amoral, and mentioned his ability to “distort reality,” which is something that was talked about right up until his death. And, of course, his drug use was mentioned. One of the worst revelations is that Jobs apparently abandoned one of his girlfriends and their child.
Much of what was in the report we already knew, just didn’t want to talk about. As great an innovator as Steve Jobs was, it seems he was a bit of an ass, who though little of others and used his enormous talent against them. That said, this seems to be a trait held by most of the extremely successful tech entrepreneurs. Bill Gates is known for his disdain, Jeff Bezos for his insults during presentations, Sergey Brin for his hatred of anything that doesn’t advance you towards a goal.
